Mom's Christmas Slippers

Monday, December 27, 2010
For the past few weeks I have been crafting like a Christmas elf in order to give a few lucky family members some handcrafted Christmas presents. And now that they have all been delivered and happily received, I can show these gifts to you. Everyday this week I'll be showing off one of my handcrafted gifts, so check back often for updates.

To start off craft-week I'd like to begin with mom's Christmas slippers. This year my mom has been a very good lady: she's been working very hard at her 8-5 job, she helped out with some local political campaigns, and she's been the breadwinner in my parent's household. For Christmas my mom asked for a pair of felted slippers like she'd seen at a few of the yarn shops during the 2010 Yarn Shop Hop, so that's exactly what she got.

I used Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool from Michaels in Oak Tweed, a size J crochet hook, 2 eco friendly buttons from Hancock Fabrics, and the felted adult slip-ons pattern (found here on ravelry and here). After the slippers were crocheted, the slippers were put into the washing machine 3 times so that the wool would felt and the crochet stitches would disappear.

Here's how they turned out:
